Differentiated Instruction: Reaching the Ranges of Academic Diversity

Academic diversity is a reality in our classrooms today and curriculum differentiation is one framework to help teachers adjust their teaching to accommodate such a diversity. Day 1 of this workshop sponsored by the NRPDC will orient K-8 teachers to the framework of curriculum differentiation. Participants will be introduced to the philosophy of differentiation and work with teacher- created examples in order to understand its basic and abstract principles. Participants will be asked to practice the principles of differentiation and share several examples they tried in their classrooms when the group meets again in March. Math World: New Standards for the New Millennium

First Annual Equity in Education Conference

The purpose for the first annual Equity in Education Conference, sponsored by the National Coalition for Equity in Education (NCEE), is to build and expand the community of educators working for equity and to strengthen their professional and personal relationships with one another. Participants will learn: concrete tools and strategies for addressing equity issues; effective and constructive use of achievement data in professional development; how university educators can make changes in teacher preparation courses; how to create supportive environments for change; how to take school level action related to curriculum, teaching placement policies, and other matters that affect student access and opportunity; and how to help change classroom teaching practices.
