The Home-School Connection

The Weaving Gender Equity into Math Reform project at TERC has created a one and one-half hour workshop session on the home-school connection, equity, and mathematics that is appropriate for use as a professional development tool with teachers, staff developers, after-school program providers, and other educators who work with parents. "The Home-School Connection" can be used as a stand-alone workshop or as part of an extended in-service training program for teachers and administrators.

One goal of this session is to help teachers understand parents'/caregivers' realities and that parents (defined broadly) want to do what's best for their children. Participants will receive suggestions about mathematics activities that work best at home, and to help them see ways of using these activities. The third part of the session will help workshop participants educate parents about mathematics and the changing nature of math education.

This workshop session is available in PDF format, and can be downloaded and viewed using Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you do use the "Home-School Connection" workshop session, please contact us at Christina_Perez@terc.edu to let us know about your experiences. Thank you.
